Several years ago (1992), two directionless college students met jet skiing on a small lake in central California. After one month and one spring break trip to Lake Havasu, they became friends.

One worked in a nightclub, the other in a department store. Both were very bored with school and summer was getting near so they came up with a bright idea. Move to resort areas and scrape up jobs as bartenders. They both lucked out and picked up jobs. One in Bass Lake and the other in Newport Beach. Their summer flew by and the ski season was just around the corner so they decided to pack up everything they owned (not much) and run off to Colorado. School? Well it just got lost somewhere along the way.

They moved to Vail to snowboard, but reality soon set in and they had to work. Bars, restaurants, hotels, bartenders, bar backs, servers, bussers, hosts, doormen, managers, fine dining, casual dining, family style, banquets, sports bars, dive bars, nightclubs, breakfast, lunch, après ski, happy hour, dinner, corporate, private. Whatever the job or the place, they each did anything and everything they had to do to survive. They boarded whenever they could, but work took up most of their time. About halfway through the season an interesting thing happened, they each realized that not only were they working a lot, they were learning a lot. More than they ever did in school. With this new found knowledge and much daydreaming came an idea. Vail, Colorado 1993-1994, STUBRIK’S was born.

A wise, somewhat eccentric old man once said, “Do things your own way. If people like it, fine. If people don’t like it, that’s fine too. If you fail doing things your own way, then so be it. But if you fail doing things someone else’s way, then you’ve failed yourself.”

STUBRIK’S is supposed to be one thing and one thing only. A place where Stub and Rik would want to go. A place that offers great food and drinks. A place with good music, good people and a great atmosphere. A place that is very comfortable with lots of character. A place that they haven’t been able to find anywhere because it just doesn’t exist!

STUBRIK’S is: Old school, East Coast, Blues, guitar, harmonica, steaks, stroganoff, Guinness, Irish root beers, Ireland, the little guy, small business, blue jeans, T-shirts, ball caps, long vacations, sunny days, powder days, good friends, great beer, designated drivers, March madness, jet skiing, snow boarding, wakeboarding, Glamis, MX, jawbone, ocotillo & bad golf.
